“KAALSTAART” is a traveling festival for science-based art, where artists reflect on questions emerging from scientific research.
Science-based art draws inspiration from science, technology, and nature. Visual art, performing art, research, and new collaborations are presented to the public in and around a number of historic inland cargo ships.
My contribution will consist of speculative organs—organs in which current medical and technological developments serve as inspiration for possible innovations in the organs of the future.
I will also offer a glimpse into an ongoing collaborative project with Monique Polman, in which these organs will be presented within a life-sized ceramic sculpture. Inspired by Salvador Dalí’s Venus de Milo with Drawers, the sculpture features compartments containing future organs, intended to spark discussion.
This year, KAALSTAART will dock not only in Amersfoort, but also in Wageningen and Wijk bij Duurstede during April and May.
