Glass artworks at expo in KCB
Glassfused artworks created by Nicole Spit and inspired by deep sea life at the exhibition ‘Omzwervingen’ (Wanderings) at the KCB | KunstenaarsCentrumBergen in Bergen NH. These can be seen at the groupexhibition, with 12 other KCB artists.
“We drift into uncharted regions of the ocean. There, intriguing organisms float and wander. These two kiln-fused glass objects depict speculative deep-sea life forms: a jelly-like creature made of transparent and blue Bullseye glass with yellow and white inclusions, evoking bio-electronic properties, and a bioluminescent jellyfish with a red core that seems to breathe a soft light.
More than 70% of the Earth is covered by ocean, and approximately 95% of the deep sea and seabed remain largely unexplored. Like rainforests, this realm harbors unknown life forms, chemical compounds, and processes that may yield valuable insights through biomimicry. At the same time, this ecosystem is under pressure due to planned deep-sea mining. As a speculative designer, I explore possible futures—such as that of the ocean—and what is at stake.” Nicole Spit – Studio Dáárheen 2026
